There’s something so special about getting the whole family together for photos, especially when you have a beautiful morning at Smith Mountain Lake as the backdrop!
This extended family session was a quick morning session down by the docks, and it couldn’t have turned out more beautifully. Morning light at the lake is always one of my favorites—it gives everything such a soft, natural glow and makes for the prettiest photos.
With an extended family session, I know there are a lot of people to photograph, so I always try to keep things relaxed and moving while making sure we capture a good mix of everyone together and the smaller family groupings, too. We were able to make the most of our time by the water and capture plenty of sweet moments along the way.
I loved how natural this family was together. There were plenty of genuine smiles, laughs, and moments that felt like them, which is exactly what I want their photos to capture. The docks also gave us a beautiful variety of backdrops without having to travel far, making it the perfect spot for a quick family session.
Smith Mountain Lake is one of my favorite places for family photography because there are so many beautiful spots to work with, especially around the water. Whether you’re looking for photos with the lake in the background, a pretty dock, or simply a relaxed setting for your family to spend time together, there’s no shortage of options.
This was such a sweet family to photograph, and I’m so happy with how their images came together. A short morning session, beautiful lake views, and lots of genuine family moments made for a gallery they can look back on for years to come.
